One of the great myths about solar PV is that it needs direct sunlight to generate electricity. Solar PV in fact requires just daylight.

Two things are needed to create solar powered electricity, daylight and a semiconductor material such as silicon. When light hits the silicon some of the energy in the light is absorbed and the silicon atoms become strongly agitated. Electrons in the atoms are displaced and are captured to be carried through an energy conductor as Direct Current (DC) electricity. The electricity is converted to Alternating Current (AC) by an inverter for use in your home.
